The assistance is provided in collaboration with the Australian and NSW governments through the Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

The government support to the NSW council and residents includes:

• The government will provide aid to local councils for cleaning and restoring the damage that occurred due to the flooding.
• The eligible residents would receive emergency assistance to fulfill emergency needs such as cash payments to purchase essential items available at evacuation centers, and accommodation when the property is damaged.
• Payments to replace lost household items that were very important and needed for living. 
• The government will support financially restoring and repairing the residences of the NSW residents and making them a safe living space for the people affected by the disaster. 
• The government will support small business owners, non-profit organizations, sporting clubs, and primary producers in restoring their property. 

Who qualifies for the NSW flood payment 2024?

To claim the NSW flood payments, you must fulfill the following eligibility criteria:

• People who have suffered severe damage to life, property, and health in the floods of NSW would be eligible for the NSW flood payments. 
• The claimant’s age must be over 16 years at the time of the floods.
• The claimant should be an Australian citizen, or he/she must hold a valid temporary visa.
• The claimants are eligible to receive financial assistance for individual businesses and loans for small businesses. 
• The claimants who have dependent children can receive the payment for the child. 
• The residents of NSW LGAs listed under the Disaster Recovery Allowance are eligible for the NSW flood payments

The NSW flood payment is available for the following regions of NSW residence and council:

• Blue Mountains
• Upper Lachlan
• Penrith
• Camden
• Wingecarribee
• Camden
• Wollondilly
• Liverpool
• Sutherland
• Hawkesbury
• Shellharbour
• Wollongong
• Shoalhaven

How much will you receive in NSW flood payments in 2024? 

Under the NSW flood payments, the eligible residents can receive financial assistance according to the following distribution:

• Eligible adults would receive a $1000 payment. 
• The eligible child would receive a payment of $400 who suffered loss due to the NSW floods.
• The payment amount can vary depending on the region and damage. 

According to the DRFA, the Australian government provides funds for up to 75% of the assistance provided to the communities and individuals. 

The loan assistance to the businesses, non-profit organizations, and primary producers are:

• Small Business Concessional Loans assistance – Up to $130,000
• Primary Producers: 

•  Concessional loan assistance- up to $130,000 
• For transport subsidy- up to $15,000

• Non-Profit Organizations:
• Concessional loan assistance- up to $ 25,000 
• For transport subsidy- for donated fodder

How to claim the NSW flood payments 2024?

The eligible residents and councils can claim the NSW flood payments online in the following ways

• The eligible NSW residents and council can contact NSW at 137788 or go to the NSW website at https://www.nsw.gov.au/ for financial assistance information. 
• People wishing to apply for a concessional loan or primary producer grant can claim financial assistance for a loan by contacting the NSW Rural Assistance Authority on the toll-free number 1800-678-593 or you can visit the Rural Assistance Authority.

Follow the steps when you visit the Rural Assistance Authority:

1. Go to the Rural Assistance Authority at https://www.raa.nsw.gov.au/
2. Next, apply for a grant or loan as per your preference. 
3. Enter the required details about yourself and the loss you suffered due to floods and select your residency in an eligible NSW LGA.
4. Provide supporting documents like residency proof, damage proof, etc. to solidify your claim.
5. At the end, submit your claim and NSW will grant your flood payment ASAP. 

The people can claim the NSW flood payments before 7 October 2024 and for the transport subsidies you must claim the NSE Disaster recovery allowance before 7 January 2025.
